The Duchess of Malfi – freshly widowed heiress of the city’s recently deceased gangster boss – has it all: A loyal best friend, a secret love affair with her accountant, and all financial means needed for a carefree and self-determined future.
But the Duchess’ newfound freedom is not welcomed by the rest of her family: Her brothers, the calm and calculating Cardinal, who handles the daily criminal business, and her unstable twin Ferdinand, the family’s black sheep, start plotting behind her back.
When the shady ex-con Bosola gets involved as well, things begin to get out of hand…
A bloody and bizarre family tragedy about power, love, honor, betrayal, and revenge. Caution: Might contain werewolves!

The plot is inspired by the recent social movement in Iran called “Woman, Life, Freedom” and tells the story of a young woman who tries to appeal to the two judicial authorities of Safety and Liberty to save her country from the threat of civil war.
A vacant throne, a contract between brothers and the intention of doing the right thing.
The king of Thebes has died and his sons Eteocles and Polyneices fight over the succession to the throne. Both find their ruin in the pursuit of power; while Eteocles dies protecting the city, Polyneices dies trying to destroy it. The new king Creon rules that in honour of Eteocles, Polyneices is to stay unburied. Their sister Antigone is outraged about this unjust law that contradicts the laws of the gods. But…
Should we value unwritten laws of humanity more highly than the laws made by humans? Should a peson be treated differently in death because of their actions in life? And should one risk everything to do the right thing?
These questions may be even more relevant today than 2500 years ago when this play was originally written.

This January, the BUSC finally returns to the grand stage of the Brotfabrik with a main production. This time, we venture into unknown worlds, as we explore the stars: With Shakespeare’s “The Tempest” – in Space!
This summer, the Bonn University Shakespeare Company returns to a wood full of mystery, scheming and fairytale characters. After the huge success of the “Faeries and Tales Tour” 2020, the play is being resurrected, er, revived this year. Follow the legendary fairy detective Inspector Boggart on the trickiest case of her career: in her search for a missing princess, we encounter shady witnesses, mischievous suspects and meet characters from legends, myths and literature.
Follow us into the fairy forest – but don’t stray too far from the group…you don’t know what all lurks in the dark.
The Bonn University Shakespeare Company e.V. has been staging Shakespeare, British authors, and other world literature in English language for over 25 years – and since 2018, it has also produced entertaining originals in the Grüne Spielstadt.
